Administrative History

Chadayamangalam Grama Panchayat is a renowned local self-government area located in the Chadayamangalam Block under the Kottarakkara Taluk of Kollam district. Nestled close to the eastern hilly terrain, this region is highly notable for its natural beauty and legendary heritage.

  • Area: The panchayat is spread across an approximate area of 19.04 square kilometers.
  • Location: Chadayamangalam is situated between Ayoor and Nilamel, on both sides of the Thiruvananthapuram - Angamaly M.C. Road (Main Central Road).
  • Boundaries: Chadayamangalam shares its boundaries with the neighboring panchayats of Elamadu, Ittiva, Kadakkal, Nilamel, and Velinalloor.

    Population and Economy

  • Population: It is an inhabited region with a population of over 20,000 people.
  • Livelihood: Agriculture is the primary source of income for the residents. The major crops cultivated here include rubber, black pepper, paddy, cashew, and coconut. Additionally, with the launch of the Jatayu Rock tourism project, many families now rely on the tourism sector for their livelihood.

     

    Socio-Cultural Sector

  • Chadayamangalam is also a State Assembly Constituency. Prominent leaders of Kerala politics, such as E. Chandrasekharan Nair and Veliyam Bhargavan, have represented this constituency.
  • In the field of education, the Government Mahatma Gandhi Higher Secondary School, established in 1960, has contributed significantly to the cultural and social progress of the region.
